Tragic News—Oct. 14, 2022

To the families and community of the Cascade School District,

We have received word that last night, Matt McBeth, social studies teacher at the high school, was killed in a car accident. Our hearts go out to all his family and friends for this incredible loss. Matt taught for more than 25 years at the high school.

In times like these, we receive support from the Willamette Education Service District. Counseling services will be available today in the high school library to any student, staff, or community member until 3:00 pm. We will continue to find ways to support our students and staff in the days ahead.

More information will be coming soon about changes to Monday’s schedule for parent/teacher conferences at the high school. Other schools will continue with their previously announced schedules.

Parents and caregivers, the Dougy Center here in Oregon has resources for students and for you as a parent or caregiver on dealing with grief, loss, and death. Here is a link if that would be of interest to you: https://www.dougy.org/grief-support-resources

There aren’t really words for times like this. Our community will work to support each other through this devastating loss.

With sadness,

Darin Drill, Superintendent, Cascade Schools
