Welcome to the start of the 2021-22 school year. When I took the Superintendent's job 14 years ago, I never thought I would be leading through a global pandemic. While I can say COVID-19 has brought the most unique challenges I've ever faced, I can also say without a doubt that we have the staff and students that can handle these challenges.

A year ago, we were planning for a school year that began with Comprehensive Distance Learning. We did not know if and when we would see students in our school buildings. I am proud of how hard our staff worked to get students into the school buildings last year. We were one of the first districts in the Willamette Valley to offer in-person school five days a week to all K-12 students. We were eighth in the state for in-person instruction minutes.

The 2021-22 school begins with a commitment to having in-person school, all day, every day, for every child. We will do everything we can to keep students learning in school. We have to follow the safety protocols and guidance set forth by the Oregon Department of Education and the Oregon Health Authority.

Our district mission statement says that we are committed to providing a well-rounded education where each student is supported, confident, and graduates college or career ready. That motto will continue to guide us through this school year. We will address the social and emotional well-being of our students while providing quality education.

I am looking forward to seeing all of the creative ways our staff members will connect with students, and I can not wait to see the amazing things students will do this year.

Be sure to follow the district and our schools on social media.

Best wishes to you and your family for a successful school year.
