Hello Cascade Community,

Last week's events brought safety to the forefront of everyone's mind. We want to share with you again information on our Standard Response Protocol at Cascade. These five actions are posted all over our schools. We practice them with students and staff all year long. As parents and guardians, being aware of this information helps you know the different types of protocols we might put in place.

The video above and the attached flyer show you that we have 4 other protocols in addition to Lockdown, which is our most severe response. We want to remind again that last Friday, we were not placed in Lockdown, but rather were in Secure Hold. Bringing students inside from the buses to a secure location was exactly the response dictated by the Secure Hold protocol.

We encourage parents to review this material yourself, and consider talking with your student about the different actions, and what they know and have practiced in school already.

Thanks for working together with us as we all strive to keep students and staff safe!

Biome Project at Aumsville Elementary

Learning about habitats and our world is so important!

5th graders at Aumsville Elementary got to show their biome projects to other students and families. They chose and researched a particular biome, like a desert or rain forest, and then created a project that demonstrated their learning.

Teacher Collaboration for Writing

Putting in the work to improve on a late start Wednesday!

Elementary teachers spent the morning comparing writing samples, and sharing writing instruction practices that really make the difference.

According to research, collective efficacy is the number one strategy for student academic growth. What is collective efficacy? It's when a group shares the belief that working together and sharing with each other makes everybody able to accomplish our common goals.

This is what we do at Cascade! We build on each other's in-house knowledge, and it's one of the key cornerstones as to why Cascade out performs the rest of the state in K-12 literacy scores.

Training for Admin and Counselors

Today during the work day, District administration and counselors participated in Behavior Safety Assessment (BSA) provided by the Willamette Education Service District.

BSA is the system that is used to address threats against our schools, students and staff. It is a multidisciplinary team approach to ensure that all perspectives are taken in when dealing with threats. The teams include school admin, mental health, law enforcement and parents.
