Cascade Junior High School gave a 9/11 thank you to First Responders!

Last Friday, the 8th grade Leadership students from CJHS delivered posters made up of students' cards to our local first responders:

Marion County Sheriff's Office, Aumsville Police Department, Aumsville Fire Station, Turner Fire Department, and Turner Police Department.

At the Marion County Sheriff's Dept, the students got a full tour of each department in the building along with getting to love on and interact with their K-9 dog. Then at the Aumsville Police Dept and Aumsville Fire Station, the students were able to get a tour as well as go inside one of the fire trucks. We stopped by both Turner Fire Station and Turner Police Dept at City Hall to extend our gratefulness for all that they do for our community.

Tuesday was National IT Professionals Day!

We're grateful for our team here at Cascade School District, and all the things they do to keep our computers and wifi and gradebooks and phones up and running, not to mention the unseen to work to constantly improve our protection and keep data breaches out.

At Cascade, we know that relationships help students learn and grow. So we intentionally check to see how students are doing.

This week at Cascade Junior High School, counselors Reyna Gonzalez and Bryan Rozo are conducting "Minute Meetings" with every single student. They ask whether students feel prepared for learning, and problem solve when they hear barriers. They ask if they feel supported by peers, if they have an adult who they can talk to, and more.

It's not just asking the questions, but strategizing how to help each student get what they need. This is how we help every student thrive!

Every day, our teachers are creatively bringing lots of pieces together to help our students learn.

In Mrs. Rutherford's 1st grade class at Cloverdale Elementary, students are learning about frogs. There are frogs in the back of the room to observe, and they also are learning about different types of frogs that live in the rainforest.

That leads to a broader discussion on habitats, and what habitats support which animals. All part of #everydaylearning in Cascade Schools!

We love hosting our community at Turner Elementary Family Recess!

Parents met teachers, there were fun games and music, hot dogs, roasted marshmallows...and the annual rubber ducky fundraiser race!

Things are moving on the Cascade Construction Bond!

The bonds were sold and the money was received in late August. On Monday night, the School Board approved the decision to hire HMK Company to serve as the Owner's Representative, an experienced company that will guide the district through this process.

Thursday was our first meeting with HMK and district staff. We will work hard on the planning so that construction can move quickly and efficiently over the next three summers!

We love when our students help each other!

On Thursday, Makenna and Karlie Burns from Mrs. Cox's Health Services class at Cascade High School came and taught a lesson to Mrs. Burns' 6th grade students at Cascade Junior High School about healthy habits to protect your body. They discussed why sunscreen is important and the many different forms, as well as the details and importance of washing your hands. The highlight for the students was when they sprinkled "germ glow" on their hands and tested the students ability to wash their hands thoroughly. They were then checked with a UV light to see if they were able to wash away all their germs. 

Mrs. Burns said: "All of my students had a great time and asked when the girls would be able to return and teach another lesson. I am excited for this partnership and the opportunity for my 6th grade students to see and hear the opportunities our own high school offers within the health industry. Today's lesson was very engaging and informative. Thank you Mrs. Cox!"

ParentPortal (run by PowerSchool) is where you will see your student's classes and grades and attendance. Here is the link to sign in or create an account for PowerSchool (contact your school if you have questions):

We also have a system to send out information to you by email, phone, text, and an app. It's called ParentSquare. Once you have registered with the school and set up ParentPortal/PowerSchool, a new account is automatically created for you in ParentSquare. Some people are having issues because your relationship to your student isn't set up correctly in ParentPortal/PowerSchool. Contact your school office if you are having issues.

1st-4th graders can be part of Cascade Fall Youth Football camp the next four Saturdays. You can register at the camp, starting at 9 am, and the session runs from 9:30 to 10:30 am.

Next Thursday, September 24, the Family Resource Center is hosting "Minute to Win It" games for our families in Cascade School District. 

Come join the fun, from 6:00 to 7:30 pm!

We want all our students to thrive!

What comes next after graduation? Trade school? College? Military? And how do we pay for it?

Make plans to come to the Community College Fair on Wednesday, Oct. 14. Students will attend during the day, but for the first time parents can join from 3:30 - 5:00 pm, to meet and ask questions.

Then, stick around for the Financial Aid Night at 5:15 pm in the library. We want to support you!
