National School Counseling Week

Our School Counselors are the best! They work every day helping our students thrive academically and socially.

It's National School Counseling Week, and we hope you'll join us in thanking our team!

Math Fact Challenge at Turner Elementary

All our Cascade schools work hard on the basics! At Turner Elementary last week, Math Coach Shannon Stinnett launched the "Math Fact Challenge" for 3rd through 5th graders.

With home and school working together, we can build great math skills that will last a lifetime!

Sub Honored at Aumsville Elementary

Wednesday morning during staff meeting at Aumsville Elementary, substitute David Mintken was honored as this month's Edustaff Excellence Award recipient. Edustaff is the company Cascade contracts with for our substitutes.

David was nominated by Assistant Principal Katy Ranzoni, who shared the following comments in support of his nomination:

"Mr. David goes above and beyond the common expectations of a substitute. He often subs in our behavior room and does an amazing job of building personal relationships with students and staff members. He works hard to keep students on schedule and regulated and finds creative ways to engage students who are typically a difficult population for many. We greatly appreciate Mr. David and always look forward to having him in our building."

Junior High "Shark Tank"

Our teachers do a great job of creating projects that teach so many different skills!

Mr. Thompson's STEM class at Cascade Junior High School created Lego "rovers" that are remote controlled, as well as "landers" that could place those rovers on the surface of Mars. They experimented and improved their creations.

Thursday, they had to present their inventions to a "Shark Tank" of investors. They shared their learning, and then demonstrated their creations that were literally dropped from the ceiling and then driven with remote control to areas where they picked up "rock samples."

Engineering, experimentation, and business skills, all in one project! #everydaylearning

Inventions at Cloverdale Elementary

Across the district, our teachers get our students to create and think! Check out the inventions third graders made at Cloverdale Elementary!

Students had to design an invention that could help solve a problem! From washing your dog's paws to an idea machine to flying shoes, these kids thought of it all! You can see more pictures on our Facebook page.

Fantastic work, third grade!

Board Reinstates Superintendent Drill

On Tuesday, the Cascade School Board held a Special Executive Session with the district lawyer to hear the results of a comprehensive, third-party investigation into allegations about Superintendent Darin Drill. The allegations were made in a lawsuit against the district on a matter that did not involve Superintendent Drill.

“The outside investigator spent the past couple months on this,” said Board Chair Brett Stegall. “Bottom line: all allegations made against Superintendent Darin Drill were unfounded.” The report thus cleared Superintendent Drill of any wrongdoing. The Board then took action to immediately reinstate Superintendent Drill to his position, and he was back in the office starting Wednesday.

Chair Stegall thanked Superintendent Drill for his leadership in making sure Cascade always does the right thing, always investigating allegations no matter which staff member it is.
“I’m very happy to be back working with our great staff, continuing to build something great here in Cascade,” said Superintendent Drill. “Working with this entire team of people making a difference for our great students is what I love doing.”

The Board welcomed the return of Superintendent Drill, and thanked Director of Human Resources Jay Weeks for covering the duties of the superintendent capably over the last couple of months.
