PowerSchool is the company that runs the software for our student information system (SIS).
On Tuesday, January 7, 2025, PowerSchool informed our leadership team that they experienced a cybersecurity incident involving unauthorized access to certain PowerSchool SIS customer data. Unfortunately, they have confirmed that the information belongs to some of Cascade's families and staff.
The data that may have been compromised includes family and staff information; primarily the information is student and staff contact information like name and addresses. PowerSchool is now working to prevent any of the compromised data from further unauthorized access or misuse. The company believes that this data has been deleted and will not be shared anywhere publicly.
It is worth noting that this breach is on PowerSchool’s end and outside of Cascade's control, and has not affected any of our other systems in the district.
When we set up PowerSchool for our district, Cascade made some good security decisions that some other districts have not, including multi-factor authentication and not storing social security numbers or passwords in PowerSchool.
Protecting our students is something we take seriously. With PowerSchool’s help, more information and resources (including credit monitoring or identity protection services if that becomes needed) will be provided to you as it becomes available.
