In 1871 the first schoolhouse inside the boundaries of the town of Turner was built on the property now occupied by the present facility. It was located southeast of the present building. This school was used until 1922, when the present structure was built to house students in grade 1 – 12. After the new school was finished, the old structure remained in use for many years to come. It actually had a life span of 90 years, being used as a gymnasium until the new gym was built in 1974.
There then followed a series of additions to the main structure to provide the facilities that are in existence today.
In 1959, four classrooms and two rest rooms were added to the northeast corner of the existing building, along with the current kitchen facilities.
In 1964, two more additions took place: The present boiler room building was constructed, and the Community Swimming Pool was constructed and donated to Turner School District through the generosity of Don Burkland of Burkland Lumber Company. Burkland Community Pool continues to be owned and operated by the Cascade School District.
In 1974, the current multi-purpose room (gym) and play shed were constructed. At this time, the school built in 1884 was torn down.
