Our school has a very interesting history. The main building was built in 1947 to house a newly formed Cascade High School District #5. Students from 7 schools attended classes in the new building. In 1966 the building was designated to become junior high school with a new high school building being constructed on the same campus, but a fire postponed the move into the new building. Finally two years later in 1968 the Junior High became it's own school enrolling 7th, 8th & 9th graders from Aumsville, Cloverdale, Marion, North Santiam, Turner & West Stayton elementary schools. Classrooms were added to the "old wing" in 1980 and in 1988 crowding caused the ninth graders to move over into the high school building.
A number of interesting artifacts remain in the "old wing" in the junior high: home ec in room 3 has a fume hood as a reminder of the room's former use as a science lab; special education rooms 4 & 6 have fold down tables from its days as a cafeteria; rooms 10, 11, & 12 have walls of storage areas remaining from its former use as an art complex.
At the present time there are newer signs which reflect the building's most recent uses and enrollment changes. The tether ball and four square recess areas signal the arrival of 125 Aumsville and West Stayton 6th graders in 1995. That's when these students began attending classes in the junior high because of crowded conditions in their elementary building. In addition, there are 4 rooms plus part of the library dedicated as computer labs, a building use the original architects never could have envisioned in 1947.
While the sign over the main door reads "Cascade Junior H.S." the inside of the building still says "high school, junior high and middle school" --- reminding everyone of our very proud past and our equally promising future.
