State Report Card

2017-2018 State Report Card

A report card on a wooden desk. The Oregon Department of Education produces yearly report cards for schools and districts. The report includes academic performance and achievement highlights for the academic year.

Our high school graduation rate is at 90 percent which is in the top 20 for high schools throughout the state. Another area in which we excelled, is our “Freshmen on Track” rate which is at 96 percent. That mark is way about the state average. If you go and look at those scores, please look at the high school page, not the overall page. There is a glitch in the system and the incorrect score was recorded on the overall school district data.

Cascade School District continues to work hard to improve our Smarter Balanced Test scores. The Smarter Balanced Test is based on the state's common core standards; which are far more rigorous learning standards for all our students than ever before. The goal of more rigorous standards and a more difficult test is to have your student even better prepared to enter college, the military, or the workforce.

Depending on the grade level, our students have done reasonably well on these tests. Our junior high math, reading and science scores have improved over the previous year. And the elementary scores are increasing as well. As a district we are always looking for ways to improve our scores and we will continue to work on those strategies as we prepare to take this year's tests in the spring.

Our focus is not just state school testing. The Cascade School Board and I have worked on goals that strike a balance between three important ideas, all of which have equal importance. The first is to continue to get better at state testing. The second is to focus on student growth so that every student improves every year. The third and final idea is to raise and educate every student to be good, well-rounded citizens. We believe that a balanced approach to testing, individual student growth, good behavior, learning to overcome obstacles that are difficult, and becoming good citizens will make our students successful in life. We will continue to work hard to educate every student that enters our doors. You can help your student by tracking their homework and attending parent/teacher conferences when they come up.

Thank you,
Darin Drill, Superintendent
